Our Story: Growing Dreams from Seeds of Change
In the early months of 2022, a group of environmental enthusiasts and community developers gathered around a simple, yet powerful idea – to combat food insecurity through sustainable greenhouse gardening. Our founder, Richard Schumann, an agricultural scientist and community worker, had witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by communities lacking access to fresh produce. The idea of using recycled materials to build greenhouses was his brainchild, which gave birth to TheGreenerGreenhouse.
Our first prototype, constructed using recycled 2-liter plastic soda bottles, was built in the spring of 2022. This pioneering greenhouse became part of a life-altering summer program at a camp for adults with severe developmental challenges, where participants engaged in nurturing lima bean plants. This experience showed us the boundless possibilities that lay within the humble structure of a greenhouse.
